MARCH FOR OUR LIVES

Every day in the United States, more than 100 lives are taken by the deadly epidemic of gun violence.

Among young people, gun violence has become a top cause of death, second only to drug overdoses. That´s why the movement "March for our lives" was created, to fight against guns in the United States.
They have a clear plan to reduce the number of deaths because of guns call "C.H.A.N.G.E.":

- Change the standards of gun ownership
- Halve the rate of gun deaths in 10 years
- Accountability for the gun lobby and industry
- Name a director of gun violence prevention
- Generate community-based solutions
- Empower the next generation

As for every movement there are a lot of mottos to make people aware of the problem. One that I particulary liked is the following one: "Arms are for hugging".

This slogan is a pun with the word arms, which means the part of the body but also the weapon, in both case the sentence has a sense, that´s why it´s a pun. In the slogan they use the word arms as the part of the body. The slogan is paradoxical because hugging is usually associated with love which is the opposite to death, mostly represented by arms ( the weapon mining).

2018, March for our lives in Washington D.C

At first sight we clearly see in the middle of the picture a man taking a pancart in which is written the slogan: "Protect kids not guns". If we look at his left we see more people taking the same pancart with the same slogan. So, we could ask our selves why this slogan concretely?

They chose this slogan because the movement "March for our lives" emerged from the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school shooting in which 17 students and staff members of the school were killed and others 17 were injured.
The march as every one of this association is against N.R.A which is in favour of guns free trade.
